Onwaarschijnlijke scores…

De nieuwe editie rond Piemonte van Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate is zo juist verschenen en wederom vallen we met onze wijnen aardig in de prijzen. In de top5 van beste scores bezetten we de nummers 1, 2 en 4. 

De nummer 4 is weggelegd voor Barolo Cascina Francia 2007 van Giacomo Conterno met 96+ ten 100. Het feit dat Roberto Conterno beslist heeft zijn Barolo Riserva Monfortino 2007 niet te produceren en alles te blenden in de Cascina Francia, heeft de wijn zeker geen windeieren gelegd.

 Antonio Galloni beschrijft: “The 2007 is powerful and imposing from start to finish. It is going to be a fascinating Barolo to follow over the coming years and decades.“

Op nummer 2 staat de one-and-only Barolo Monprivato 2007 van Giuseppe Mascarello met een score van 97/100. De redenering is gelijkaardig: Barolo Ca d’Morisso Riserva 2007 werd niet gebotteld en alles ging in de reguliere Monprivato 2007. Het is nog even wachten op de lancering van deze wijn, waarschijnlijk begin 2012, maar we kijken er nu al bijzonder naar uit.

Antonio Galloni is eveneens overtuigd: “Barolo lovers will not want to be without the 2007 Monprivato. It is a stratospheric Barolo in the making.”

And last but not least, numero uno, de nummer 1 gaat naar … Barolo Riserva Monfortino 2004 met, jawel, de perfecte score van 100 op 100. We wisten reeds vooraf dat Monfortino 2004 een topper zou worden. De verschillende keren dat we deze monumentale wijn mochten proeven op vat, staan in onze geheugens gegrift als buitengewone wijnmomenten. We hebben er 9 jaar op moeten wachten, maar na Sassicaia 1985 van San Giudo, Barolo Collina Rionda 1989 van Giacosa en Redigaffi 2000 van Tua Rita is dit de 4^de Italiaanse wijn voor de welke deze magische score is weggelegd. 

Antonio Galloni: “The 2004 Barolo Riserva Monfortino is drop-dead gorgeous. I have tasted the wine multiple times from barrel and three times from bottle and never been anything less than blown away. The 2004 is a subtle, layered Monfortino that captures the sheer elegance and finesse of this great vintage. It is sweet, perfumed, silky and utterly mind-blowing. From barrel it has always been a 100 point wine, but it has just been bottled and naturally a bit closed in on itself. Still, with some time in the glass its silky, perfumed fruit and dazzling class come to life. The 2004 is remarkably harmonious for such a young wine. Readers will have much fun debating which is the greatest Monfortino of recent years. Could it be the 1996, 1999 or 2002 for their huge structure and classicism? Or, is it the 1997 for its opulence? What if the dark horse 1998 and 2000 steal the show? Personally, I adore the 2001 and 2004 for their completeness, but the 2004 is the sexiest of them all. Sadly, 2004 is also the year Giovanni Conterno passed away, but one can’t escape the feeling his spirit lives in this wine. Kudos to Roberto Conterno and his team for this magnificent, thrilling Barolo. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2044.”
